Sharpie Club Portugal

It took 5 races to be able to find the new Regional Sharpie Champion of 2009.

The two races that were possible to be held on Saturday - due to a storm and some heavy rain - were won by Renato/Delmar Conde (POR 44), although Francisco Cálão/António Pereira (POR 56) and Salustiano Ribeiro/José Carvalho (POR 50) offered interesting resistance.

Sunday started with some clouds but soon the sun appeared and winds blowing at 6/8 knots from West, allowed three more races. Francisco Cálão/Mário Coutinho (POR 56) won the first two races, followed by Renato/Delmar Conde (POR 44) in one of them and Pedro Ré/Vasco Labrincha(POR 27) in another.

Nélson Machado/João Cavaz took the last race, leaving the crews from POR 56 and POR 44 to discuss the Championship title.

In the end, one single point separated Francisco Cálão/Mário Coutinho (POR 56) from Renato/Delmar Conde (POR 44) with Pedro Ré/Vasco Labrincha (POR 27)reaching the lower podium position, benefiting from a good 2nd day.

Nelson Mahcado/João Cavaz (POR 51) were 4th, Gonçalo Silva/Rafael Lopes (POR 54) were 5th, Salustiano Ribeiro/José carvalho (POR 50) were 6th, and last position was occupied by José/Nuno Monteiro (POR 50).

5 excelent races, full of competition, demonstrating the crews are well prepared and knowing that the slightest distraction can mean the loss of one or two places.

The Sharpies are back on the water next 21st and 22nd of June, for another Regatta organized by the Sharpie Club (Portugal).
